Winning a Wesley: classic final to end the season
Clinton and Cap Coast produced an absolute classic to end the 2018 Premier League season, with the ‘Grubbies’ taking out a tight contest 1-0 in extra time after 90 minutes hadn’t broken the stalemate. The division 1 final was one of the best games in recent times and one that will be long talked about.
Junior & Community Seniors Grand Finals plus Premier League Preliminary Finals
This coming weekend (14/15 September) will see the Grand Finals in juniors and community seniors in both Gladstone and Rockhampton while on Saturday night there is Preliminary Finals action in the Premier League with Frenchville hosting after narrowly being beaten by Clinton in both divisions last weekend.
Finals continue this weekend
This coming weekend sees the junior and community senior Preliminary Finals taking place in Gladstone and Rockhampton. Following last weekend’s Major and Minor Semi-Finals the clubs who won their respective matches have either progressed directly to the Grand Finals or will face off this weekend in the Preliminary Finals against the losers of the 1 v 2 games.
Also commencing this weekend are the Major and Minor Semi-Finals in the CQ Premier League. Newly crowned Premiers Clinton host Frenchville in both Divisions with both clubs finishing as the most consistent in 2018. Congratulations to Clinton who are also crowned our Premier League Champions for taking out both premierships.
And don’t forget the winners of our Gladstone and Rockhampton Grand Finals will get the chance to face each other on 22 September in our Intercity Challenge, all prior to the Premier League Grand Final. What a day that should be.
Days and times of this weekends finals in both centres, starting from this Friday evening, are on the images in this post and also downloadable as PDFs below.

Clinton crowned Premiers of CQ Premier League
Gladstone’s Clinton Football Club are the official Premiers in this year’s CQ Premier League competition. As the club has finished top of the table in both the 1st and 2nd divisions, they also take out the Premier League Champion club award. Clinton will be no doubt keen to erase the memories of last year’s unsuccessful final series with a win in Division 1 this coming weekend over close rivals Frenchville assuring them of hosting the Grand Finals on 22 September. A loss of course for both clubs would see them still with a second chance to make the final but I’m sure each club would love to shore up a home final this coming weekend.
Good luck to both clubs this coming weekend.
It’s Finals Time!
This coming weekend sees the junior and community senior Major and Minor Semi finals taking place in Gladstone and Rockhampton. The clubs who finished as our Premiers (we used to refer to them as Minor Premiers) will have the chance to directly secure a spot in the Grand Finals two weekends later. And don’t forget the winners of our Gladstone and Rockhampton Grand Finals will get the chance to face each other the following weekend (22 September) in our Intercity Challenge, all prior to the Premier League Grand Final. What a day that should be.

Clinton Cup to Replace Terry West
A long standing family-run U11 carnival will sadly no longer be a part of the CQ football landscape following an announcement from the family that they no longer were in a position to continue hosting the Terry West Cup.
However, Clinton Football Club, for which Terry West used to play, has stepped in and with a revamp to the format, has developed the Clinton Cup as a replacement for what has been almost a traditional end of season feature.
The Clinton Cup includes teams across three age groups, 10, 11 and 12. In what is one major point of difference from the local U12 competition, teams will play 11 a side.
Full rules and nomination forms can be accessed at the links below. Nominations are open now.

CQ Community Cup Players Make State Country Sides
Last week saw over 50 junior football teams converge on Mackay for the inaugural FQ Community Cup. Players from age groups U12 to U16 took part in the week long event with the chance for some to impress selectors and be chosen to represent the 2018 U13 and U14 Boys Country State Teams. These teams will compete at the 2018 National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbour from Monday, 24th to Friday, 28th September inclusive.
Three players from CQ, two based in Gladstone and one from Rockhampton, either made the teams or were selected as shadow players. The players and their clubs are: U13 Team – Tiaan Engelbrecht (Central); U13 Shadow – Tyler Wetzler (Bluebirds). U14 Shadow – Cooper West (Clinton). Congratulations to all three players and to everyone that took part in the carnival. Here’s to next year. Thanks to Bill Webb for the picture (attached and below) of the U14 FCQ Team featuring Cooper.
